Companion Programme

Welcome to Busan, guest, spouses, children, friends and family to the Companion programme for SPP5! We have many activities planned for you that will make your visit enjoyable. The Companion Programme is your chance to get out and see the exciting and dynamic city of Busan and to experience Korean culture. We have (1) Korean Cooking Class, (2) Temple Life Experience, (3) Busan Highlight City Tour, and finally (4) Traditional Korean Culture Experience. Please understand that there are a minimum number of registrations for each programme and therefore your application is subject to cancellation.

Description There is a saying that in order to really understand a country’s culture, you must first experience its food, and so Korean cooking classes offer visitors a special insight into Korean culture. The Korean cuisine cooking class has become particularly popular since the international success of the Korean TV drama, “Daejanggeum”, which was set in the 14th century palace kitchen. From the class you will learn how to cook the most basic and popular Korean cuisine, Kimchi & Bulgogi.

Description People of all religions are welcome to participate in the temple life experience. Although some of the practices may seem foreign, we encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone for just a while and experience life from a different viewpoint.
As soon as you get to the main entrance gate of the temple, you will be greeted by a Monk and this temple life experience will be started with temple tour. You will hear about the history and explanations for monuments of the Temple while strolling to the main hall of the temple. After having a 40-minutes temple tour, a lesson on Tea ceremony called Dahdo will be followed, and this meaningful and serene ceremony will help you to understand traditional Korean manners and fundamental etiquettes in everyday life.
Then you will have a peaceful talk with a monk. Take this opportunity to open yourself up to new ways of thinking and understanding. Hopefully, you will have a pleasant conversation that will lead to a new found understanding of those who choose a monastic life.

Description Designated as a Busan monument, along with Oryukdo Island, Taejongdae represents Busan, and is especially famous for its rock beach. Featuring its highest peak at 250 meters, there are forests of pine trees and other 200 varieties of trees.
Jagalchi Fish Market is a place where you can see women on the roadside selling mackerel, whale meat in big wooden bowls. It is the largest and most energetic fish market in the country selling dried fish, seafood, and raw fish in a long row of merchants on the side of the road.

Description This programme is for teaching traditional Korean culture and manners to both modern Koreans and all foreigners who have much interest in Korean way of life. It will be a great opportunity for you to get a hands-on experience of Korea’s traditional culture. Here you can enjoy how to make & drink Korean Traditional Tea and wearing the traditional costume(Hanbok). Also you will be learning about traditional Korean etiquette and this will help you to understand more of Korean culture and traditional life.
